Eiffel's Cosmic story
[ Crossposted from अनकही ]
Very few people know that when it was built, Parisians did not like the iron tower. It was approved for demolition and sold as scrap. It was retained for scientific research purposes, and now became a tourist attraction. But this tower attracted more than tourists! Dr. Wulf thought it could attract radioactivity which was actually cosmic rays increasing with height! Following is a very interesting read on how Cosmic rays were discovered. http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=paris-city-of-light-and-cosmic-rays-2011-07-04 Source: SciAm
